Kane, Towes, Keith set for contract extensions

Published Dec. 3, 2009 4:25 a.m. ET

The Chicago Blackhawks are expected to announce contract extensions for young stars Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews and defenseman Duncan Keith. The team has called a news conference for Thursday afternoon. Kane and Toews, both 21, led the Blackhawks to the Western Conference finals last season. The Blackhawks have the lead this season in the Central division. Kane and Toews are each expected to get new five-year deals. Keith, one of the team leaders in minutes played, is expected to get a 13-year extension. The Chicago Tribune reported last month the deals were in the works.
