Islanders' Tavares has stress fracture in foot

Published Jun. 3, 2010 5:45 p.m. ET

New York Islanders forward John Tavares says he has a stress fracture in his right foot from the world championships.

Tavares expects to be fine for training camp and says he'll be ready for the season.

He took a shot off the skate during Canada's game against Sweden last month but was able to play the remaining games in the tournament. When Tavares returned home, an MRI revealed the stress fracture.

He appeared at an NHLPA event Thursday wearing a walking cast and says he'll be limited in his workouts for the next couple weeks.
