RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) The Carolina Hurricanes signed free-agent center Jay McClement to a one-year, $1 million deal Wednesday.

The 31-year-old McClement had four goals and six assists in 81 games for Toronto last season and led the Maple Leafs in faceoff percentage at 53.6. He has 75 goals and 129 assists in 682 games in nine seasons with St. Louis, Colorado and Toronto.

Carolina also agreed to a one-year, two-way deal with former first-round pick Zach Boychuk. The 14th overall pick by the Hurricanes in 2008 will make $600,000 at the NHL level or $200,000 in the minors with a guarantee of $275,000.

Boychuk has nine goals and 15 assists in 96 career games with Carolina, Pittsburgh and Nashville.
