The Carolina Hurricanes have trimmed their roster to 25 players by assigning forward Zach Boychuk to their AHL affiliate in Charlotte.

The team's move Wednesday cuts the roster to the maximum allowed for its first two regular-season games against Minnesota in Finland next week.

Boychuk was the Hurricanes' first-round draft pick in 2008. The 20-year-old was taken with the 14th overall selection, and had three goals and six assists in 31 games last season.
