Horvat nets winner as Canucks top Sharks 4-2

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) Bo Horvat scored in the third period to give the Vancouver Canucks a 4-2 win over the San Jose Sharks in a split-squad game Tuesday night that kicked off the preseason for both teams.

Hunter Shinkaruk added a goal and an assist for Vancouver, and Jordan Subban also scored. Linden Vey added an empty-net goal and two assists.

Patrick Marleau had a goal and an assist for San Jose, and Brent Burns also scored.

Selected No. 9 overall by Vancouver in this year's draft with the pick the Canucks acquired in the Cory Schneider trade with New Jersey, the 19-year-old Horvat fired in a loose puck at 11:33 to give Vancouver its third lead.

Eddie Lack started for Vancouver and stopped all 16 shots he faced before being replaced midway through the second by Joe Cannata, who also made 16 saves.

Alex Stalock made 15 stops for San Jose.
