Hockey parents must brush up on conduct at rink
Parents of New Brunswick's youngest hockey players will have to brush up on their behavior at the rink.
Hockey New Brunswick says the organization plans to introduce an online course in September. General manager Brian Whitehead says the course is mandatory for any parent registering children 4 to 8 years old.
Whitehead said Tuesday there have been enough instances of misbehavior that ''we feel we need to educate our parents and give them an opportunity to see what Hockey New Brunswick expects from parents when they are in the arena.''
Coaches and volunteers won't be required to take the course.
Whitehead says parents won't be charged a fee. In Nova Scotia, a similar program that began last year cost $12. The program will cost Hockey New Brunswick about $30,000 annually.
