Former hockey star Paul Henderson says he has responded well to leukemia treatment.
Henderson is battling chronic lymphocytic leukemia. He says his wife encouraged him to be part of a clinical trial in the United States. After seven months of treatment, Henderson says the tumor in his stomach has shrunk and he has regained 16 of the 18 pounds he had lost.
The 69-year-old Henderson is best known for scoring the winning goal for Canada in the decisive game of the 1972 Summit Series against the Soviet Union.
Henderson was awarded the Order of Hockey in Canada on Monday, along with Hall of Famer Mark Messier and coaching great Dave King.
