Groundhog Day: Bergeron, Kopitar, Toews earn repeat Selke nomination

Published Apr. 23, 2015 12:11 p.m. ET

The NHL is repeating itself as far as the Selke Trophy nomination goes. For the second consecutive year, Patrice Bergeron, Anze Kopitar and Jonathan Toews are the three finalists for the award. This is the first time in 18 years that the same trio were repeat finalists for the award.

The Selke Trophy honors the best defensive forward in the game, and Bergeron won it last season. He has two Selke Trophies (2012, 2014) and has been a finalist for four consecutive seasons.

Kopitar will be vying for both the Selke and the Lady Byng Trophy, which is awarded to the player who best combines sportsmanship with skill. Kopitar was the Kings' top face-off man this season and helped boost the club in a number of advanced statistics.

Toews will look to match Bergeron with two Selke Trophies. The Blackhawks captain won the Selke in 2013 and was a finalist in four of the last five seasons.
