Flyers, Giroux agree to extension

The Philadelphia Flyers and forward Claude Giroux have agreed to a multiyear contract extension.

Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren announced the move Monday night. The 22-year-old Giroux has seven goals and 14 points this season. Terms were not available.

Giroux has played 141 games for the Flyers over parts of four seasons, including all 82 games in 2009-10. He has 32 goals and added 56 assists for 88 points and helped the Flyers reach the Stanley Cup finals last season.

Giroux was scheduled to become a restricted free agent on July 1.
