The Calgary Flames signed defenseman Brett Carson to a $1.15 million, two-year deal on Thursday after acquiring him late in the season off waivers.

Carson was picked up from the Carolina Hurricanes on Feb. 28. The 25-year-old has two goals and 10 assists in 78 career NHL games.

Flames general manager Jay Feaster said the club signed Carson ''based on his solid play at the end of last season. ... In our end-of-season meetings, a number of our top forwards commented on his consistent ability to get the puck to them in transition.

''We are confident he will continue to develop his overall game.''
