Flames backup G Karlsson out 6 to 8 weeks

Flames backup goalie Henrik Karlsson will be sidelined six-to-eight weeks because of a torn ligament in his right knee.

Karlsson was injured Sunday during the third period of Calgary's 5-1 loss at Vancouver. He was placed on the injured list Monday when it was believed that the injury was a sprained medial collateral ligament. A re-evaluation on Wednesday revealed a high-grade tear.

Karlsson was 0-4-1 with a .895 save percentage and 3.48 goals-against average this season in six games as Miikka Kiprusoff's backup.

The Flames recalled Leland Irving from the Abbotsford of the American Hockey League on Monday, and he backed up Kiprusoff in the Flames' 7-6 home win over Carolina on Tuesday.
