Fast on track despite faltering stars

The Rangers are not getting the scoring they expect from experienced players such as Rick Nash and Martin St. Louis, but New York can tread water in these playoffs thanks to performances like Jesper Fast's on Wednesday night.

The rookie scored two goals for the Rangers in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference finals, and he nearly recorded a hat trick when he deflected a shot on net in the third period, but the shot hit the post. The multi-goal performance by Fast was especially impressive considering he recorded six goals total in the regular season. According to the New York Post, It also marked the first time a Rangers rookie recorded a multiple-goal game on the road in the playoffs since Mike Ridley accomplished the feat in 1986.

But Fast was not in a celebratory mood following Wednesday's Game 3, as the Rangers fell in overtime, 6-5, to the Lightning.

"It feels good for [my] confidence, but the most important thing is we didn’t get the win, so I’m not happy about it," Fast told reporters
