Ex-NHL tough guy pleads guilty to bank robberies, gets 30 months
Life off the ice hasn't gone very smoothly for former NHL enforcer Patrick Cote.
The 39-year-old, who played 105 games with the Dallas Stars, Nashville Predators and Edmonton Oilers during his six-year NHL career, was sentenced to 30 months in prison after confessing to two bank robberies, CJAD 800 AM in Montreal reported Tuesday.
The La Salle, Quebec, native reportedly caught the attention of the police when the car he was driving in Candiac broke down.
Cote was taken in for questioning when the officers realized the car was reported stolen in Ontario, and while at the police station, he confessed to robberies that occurred just days apart in May.
Cote's criminal record isn't exactly squeaky clean, either, as he was arrested in 2002 after police found 30 pounds of marijuana in his car. He pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of conspiracy.
Cote also has armed assault on his record, according to CJAD.
Cote was drafted 37th overall by the Stars in 1995. He retired with 377 penalty minutes and just three points in 105 career NHL games.
