Ericsson quietly becoming major factor for Red Wings

Jonathan Ericsson picked a good time to enjoy his first multi-point game of the season; the defenseman posted two assists in Detroit's 3-0 shutout of the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 3 of the series.

But don't expect Ericsson to boast about the accomplishment, as he attributed the feat to luck instead of skill.

"It wasn't any backdoor open-net passes," Ericsson told The Detroit Free Press. "Sometimes they come and sometimes they don't. Most of the times, they don't."

Good play has been coming more frequently of late for Ericsson, who tied a career-high in points in the regular season with 15 points this year (three goals, 12 assists). He earned a plus-2 rating in Game 3 to extend his streak of games without a minus rating to 12.

The Red Wings will continue to look for solid play from the defenseman as they attempt to finish off a first-round upset of the division rival Lightning, who boast one of the best offenses in the NHL.
