#Elimin8ted: Rangers fans let Ovie have it after guarantee goes up in smoke

In looking back, Alexander Ovechkin's Game 7 guarantee was doomed to backfire.

After all, he plays in Washington, where a politician's promise is about as air tight as the Edmonton Oilers defense. And he was guaranteeing a win in New York, where Mark Messier became "The Messiah" after delivering on his own guarantee (then going on to deliver a Stanley Cup in 1994) and Joe Namath made the most famous guarantee of them all.

So after the host Rangers inevitably beat Ovie and the Capitals 2-1 in overtime Wednesday to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals, those fans in New York (also known for their keen ability to remember slights aimed at them), let the Russian star have it.
