The Oilers will face off against the Winnipeg Jets Friday, and will seemingly give the remaining potential cuts another chance to prove themselves worthy of a spot on the NHL roster. Those candidates for a spot on the NHL roster include Jesse Puljujarvi, Drake Caggiula, Tyler Pitlick, Jujhar Khaira, Iiro Pakarinen, Anton Lander, Anton Slepyshev, Griffin Reinhart, Eric Gryba and Laurent Brossoit.
Against the Jets, Puljujarvi will play on the top line with Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Pitlick and Khaira will suit up on the Oilers fourth line, Reinhart will get the chance to play on his dominant left side and Brossoit will backup Cam Talbot (and possibly get some time between the pipes as well).
Caggiula has proven that he has what it takes to compete, and could be seeing time as the third-line centre this coming season if he keeps it up. Puljujarvi is likely being auditioned as a candidate for the spot on the second-line wing, and if he can prove himself capable of creating scoring chances and chemistry with Nuge, he could steal a roster spot and avoid extra development time in the AHL.
Pitlick will attempt to keep his shot at the NHL alive, along with Khaira and Brossoit. The young goaltender could end up losing to Jonas Gustavsson unless he proves his NHL readiness.
