After an offseason with 3 goals, Zack Kassian and the Edmonton Oilers have agreed to a new deal.

The contract is worth 1.95 million dollars a year for three years or 5.85 million over those three years.

That leaves more than 14 million in cap space for the Oilers this offseason.

That should be more than enough to extend both Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid long-term.

Kassian put up 24 points in 79 games with the Oilers. It was his second season with the team.

He also scored 2 game-winning goals and one shorthanded in the playoffs, coming in the clutch for the Edmonton Oilers.

Before settling in Edmonton the last two years, Kassian had a journeyman career.

Kassian went from the Buffalo Sabres to the Vancouver Canucks to the Montreal Canadiens.

He never played a game for the Canadiens, though, and became the best version of himself on-ice with the Oilers.

His 24 points in the regular season are the second-best in his career, and his 17 assists are his career high.

And his three playoff goals are a career high by three goals.

Kassian also had career highs in blocks, takeaways, hits, games, giveaways, and playoff minutes per game.

He also had more takeaways than giveaways in the playoffs. His ability to control and muscle the puck was critical in the Edmonton Oilers' series against the San Jose Sharks.

And that's the kind of play the Edmonton Oilers wanted to bring back. Kassian is a good physical forward adept at scoring ugly playoff goals, something the rest of their roster doesn't specialize in.
