While it’s unclear why the Oilers made this move, it can only be good news. First off, Matthew Benning and Kris Russell were both out with injuries Sunday. With this occurrence, Oesterle made his season debut Sunday, logging about 16 minutes TOI in the team’s 1-0 shootout win over Montreal. Eric Gryba also drew into the lineup.
This likely means that the Oilers will soon get back the services of Benning and Russell. That would be extraordinary news; unless of course Benning remains out and Eric Gryba is the one to replace him. Though Reinhart did not get to play, he did get the call-up, showing there is potential for him when it comes to redeeming himself and returning to the NHL.
With Lander’s return to the Condors, the Oilers may also get a forward back soon. Iiro Pakarinen was out with injury for a while and was sent to the Condors for conditioning. Jujhar Khaira was also hurt and has been on the IR, so this could possibly indicate his eventual return.
Edmonton ended a three-game slide with a shootout victory over Montreal Sunday. Also, out of the three Pacific teams playing Super Bowl Sunday, Edmonton was the only one to win. This additional news makes everything much better.
