Ducks C Saku Koivu out with lower-body injury

Published Jan. 15, 2010 5:39 a.m. ET

Anaheim center Saku Koivu is sitting out the third period of the Ducks' game against Los Angeles with a lower-body injury.

Koivu is the second Finnish Olympic team member in two nights to get hurt for the Ducks. A deflected puck broke Teemu Selanne's jaw in a victory over Boston on Wednesday.

Koivu will be the captain of Team Finland in Vancouver, while Selanne has led two Olympics in scoring.

Koivu apparently got tangled up with a Los Angeles player after a faceoff midway through the second period, skating slowly to the bench. The Ducks said Koivu would sit out the third period.

Koivu has 10 goals and 19 assists over 42 games in his first season with Anaheim.

The Kings led the Ducks 4-0 after two periods.
