Devils LW Parise leaves in 2nd period after hit

Published Mar. 3, 2012 2:22 a.m. ET

Devils left wing Zach Parise left New Jersey's game against Washington in the second period after getting sandwiched between two Capitals, but returned briefly in the third.

Parise already had scored a hat trick Friday night before he was hit simultaneously by forwards Brooks Laich and Matt Hendricks near the boards at the 9:40 mark of the second. Play was stopped while Parise was checked and stayed down on the ice for a bit.

Eventually, he was helped off and taken toward the locker room. He returned to the bench in the third period, and entered during a Devils power play with about six minutes left in the game.

Parise's three goals Friday give him a team-leading 27 this season.
