Detroit's Kronwall: 'It's just another wasted year'

There are always locker rooms full of disappointed players following a postseason loss, and Detroit's locker room proved to be no exception during final media availability on Friday. Alternate captain Niklas Kronwall was very vocal about his disappointment with the way the Detroit season ended.

"It's just another wasted year," Kronwall told reporters Friday. "Especially to go out like this. The one last year, it's always frustrating to lose, but this one is way different than I thought it was from last year just because I felt that we had something really good going."

Kronwall's season ended one game earlier than everyone else's, as he was suspended for Game 7 following a hit on Tampa's Nikita Kucherov in Game 6. The defenseman averaged 23:35 minutes of ice time per game through the first six games, the most of any Detroit defenseman.

Kronwall also briefly spoke to the media about coach Mike Babcock, who is rumored to be on the coaching market this summer, but Kronwall kept his comments neutral.

"I think regardless of what happens, [Babcock's] heart ... part of his heart will always be here," Kronwall told reporters.
