Detroit's Franzen out with head injury

Published Sep. 23, 2010 1:00 a.m. ET

Detroit center Johan Franzen left the Red Wings' 4-1 loss against the Dallas Stars in the first period Thursday night because of a head injury.

Franzen was down on the ice with 8:29 left in the opening period following a hit by Dallas defenseman Mark Fistric and had to be helped to the bench.

After the game, Franzen called the injury a concussion, but coach Mike Babcock said ''I wouldn't use that word.''

''It's not too bad,'' Franzen said. ''I feel OK right now.''
