The Toronto Maple Leafs have claimed well-traveled defenseman Tim Erixon off waivers from the Chicago Blackhawks.

The 24-year-old player was once considered a highly touted prospect but will be joining his fourth organization in less than six years. He is to become a restricted free agent this summer.

Erixon, who shoots left-handed, has one goal and 12 assists in 78 career NHL games, including a goal and five assists in 27 games this season.

Erixon was a 2009 first-round pick of the Calgary Flames. When the Flames were unable to sign him, they sent him to the Rangers in 2011. New York dealt Erixon to Columbus as part of the Rick Nash trade in 2012. This season, the Blue Jackets traded him to Chicago for forward Jermy Morin.
