The announcement was highlighted by kind words from Sharks general manager Doug Wilson, and calls from coaches John Tortorella and Craig Ramsay, along with retired winger Martin St. Louis, all of whom were part of Tampa Bay’s 2004 Stanley Cup run.

Playing Career

Dan Boyle was a college free agent signing out of Miami-Ohio University back in 1998.

Farewell to Dan Boyle, One of the Game’s Elite Defenders Over the Past Decade and a Half

Everyone knows that Dan Boyle was one the NHL’s premier blueliners for a long time – but few realize how big of an impact he had in his prime. One could even argue that Tampa Bay would have struggled to win in 2004 had it not been for his impeccable play. Plus, it’s gotta mean something when you hear praise coming from the likes of John Tortorella.

Something tells me this won’t the last time we see Dan Boyle involved in the NHL. Whether it be a front-office type position, scouting, or perhaps even coaching, there’s a wealth of invaluable knowledge that can be very useful.

For now, we wish Dan and his family all the best in their future endeavors. You will be truly missed within the hockey community.
