Crosby puts kibosh on helmet-less routine in warmups
Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby didn't waste much time ending one trend before it had a chance to grow into a full-blown superstition.
Crosby elected to take his helmet off for warmups prior to Thursday's game against the Avalanche. The two-time Hart Trophy winner scored a goal in the Penguins' 4-3 victory, prompting another helmet-less showing in Saturday's contest versus the San Jose Sharks.
The good times came to an end against the Sharks, as Crosby was limited to an assist and the Penguins dropped a 3-1 decision.
With that, so ended Crosby's new pre-game routine.
"The helmet thing was kind of a new thing, just to switch it up. But we lost, so I’ll put my helmet back on," the 28-year-old Crosby told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "You try different things to mix it up. ... Helmet off in warm-ups is probably not the safest thing in the world with pucks flying everywhere."
Crosby has collected three goals and eight assists in 20 games this season.
Sidney Crosby is on the ice for #Penguins warmups ... without a helmet. Because we're sure you were dying to know.
