Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby is out against the Montreal Canadiens and returning home because of an undisclosed upper body injury.
Crosby, who leads the NHL with 32 goals and 66 points, flew back to Pittsburgh on Thursday to be re-evaluated by team doctors. He was injured Wednesday night in the Penguins' 8-1 home victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Crosby played in Pittsburgh's first 41 games before sitting out Thursday night. He has recorded only one point - an assist against Tampa Bay - in three games since a 25-game point streak.
The Penguins were also without forward Matt Cooke in Montreal. Cooke returned to Pittsburgh because of personal reasons.
