Chicago Blackhawks Post Game: Hawks Fall to the Blue Jackets 3-2
The Blackhawks came into Columbus shorthanded as Marian Hossa would be sit out with a lower body injury and Coach Quenneville decided to go with seven defenseman, giving Trevor van Reimsdyk and Bran Campbell the chance to play tonight. The move did not pan out as TVR got hurt in the second period and did not return.
Special Teams tell the Story
Despite Coach Quenneville curious lineup changes, Special Teams were the story tonight. The Blackhawks could not capitalize on their chances while the Blues jackets were perfect. The Penalty Kill woes continue as they fell to the Columbus Black jackets. the Blue Jackets were two for two on the power play tonight. The Blackhawks now have allowed 11 Power Play goals this season. With the 3-2 victory, the Blue Jackets do not take as long as they did last season to win their first game.
There Was Some Positives
Despite the loss, there were a few positives for the Blackhawks. Tyler Motte scored his first NHL goal. Motte has appeared in five NHL games and recorded one goal (tonight) and two assists. The Blackhawks were hoping Motte would bring his scoring touch from the University of Michigan to the NHL. Motte scored 32 goals in his junior year at Michigan.
Another positive was that Richard Panik recorded his fifth goal of the season. He is now one goal shorts of his entire goal total all of last season. His NHL career high in goals is 11 in 2014-15 with the Toronto Maple Leafs. This is not bad for a guy who was acquired for Jeremy Morin.
