Chicago Blackhawks Morning Links- Trick Or Treat

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Good morning Chicago Blackhawks fans! The Chicago Blackhawks first month of the season has been a bag of tricks and some treats, and last night it was a pretty big treat as they defeated the LA Kings 3-0 at the United Center.

The month of October has been a real mixed bag for the Chicago Blackhawks. Last night though had to be their best 60 minute performance of the season, and they looked more like the Chicago Blackhawks that we have grown to love over the past few seasons.

The Blackhawks scored on the powerplay and they preserved their lead without giving the Kings too many quality chances on Sunday night.  It was pretty fitting that Marian Hossa scored the final goal of the game on an empty netter on a night when the Hawks celebrated Hossa for his 500th career goal. The golden stick as a present was a very cool present.

The other real treat on Sunday night was that Jonathan Toews picked up his first goal of the season.  The Captain has been chronicled to be a slow starter, so it was just a matter of time, but it was good to see Toews get one into the back of the net.

Of course the trick has been the penalty kill which has been horrendous to start the season, but on Friday night after giving up a goal on the first PK the Hawks didn’t give up a goal on 3 straight PK’s. On Sunday night the Hawks only got tested twice on the PK, and they killed both penalties off so that’s 5 straight so maybe they are turning the corner.

The Hawks are 5-3-1 for October which in the end really isn’t terrible with all the young faces on the roster. Hope you enjoy the trick or treating tonight!
