Chicago Blackhawks Morning Links- Duncan To Go

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Good Morning Chicago Blackhawks fans! The big news a few weeks ago was Duncan Keith is missing the World Cup of hockey, and yesterday the news came out that #2 may not be in the lineup when the season kicks off on October 12th.

The Chicago Blackhawks formula for winning Stanley Cups has been pretty simple to most people, when they just throw out their young studs out there and they out score the opponent.

The real secret to the Chicago Blackhawks run of championships has been their defense, and when we say defense it’s having four big defenseman to log ton of minutes.

The leader of that four for the past decade has been Duncan Keith, and yesterday the news came out that he may not be ready to roll on opening night.

Keith also won the Conn Smythe trophy that year. You can also throw in his two Norris Trophies he’s won as the NHL’s best defenseman, and makes you nervous that no one had talked about this injury that isn’t supposed to be serious but no one really knew about it either.

The Hawks strength this season will be their defense with the additions of Brian Campbell and Michal Kempny, but if Duncan Keith isn’t ready to go for a while after the season starts could be a disaster for the Chicago Blackhawks chances with all the youth that will be playing on the bottom 6.

Get well soon Keith, the Hawks need you as soon as possible.
