Caps' Wideman, Jackets' Nash ruled out

Published Mar. 31, 2011 8:02 p.m. ET

Washington defenseman Dennis Wideman sat up the Capitals' game against Columbus on Thursday night because of a lower-body injury, and Blue Jackets right winger Rick Nash was sidelined by an undisclosed injury

Wideman was hurt in the second period Tuesday night in a loss to Carolina. The Hurricanes' Tuomo Ruutu checked Wideman, limped off the ice and did not return. He has already been ruled out Saturday game against Buffalo and is listed as week-to-week.

Nash, the Columbus captain, will be re-evaluated before the Blue Jackets' home game against Chicago on Friday. Winger Tomas Kubalik will make his NHL debut for Columbus after being recalled from Springfield of the AHL to take Nash's place.
