Capitals promote scouting director Ross Mahoney to assistant GM

The Washington Capitals have promoted Ross Mahoney to assistant general manager.

The Capitals announced Monday that Mahoney will advise new general manager Brian MacLellan in all player-related matters.

Mahoney has served as a director of amateur scouting for the Capitals the past 16 seasons.

Mahoney has also been a scout with the Buffalo Sabres and Vancouver Canucks.
