Canucks call up top prospect Hodgson

The Vancouver Canucks called up top prospect Cody Hodgson from Manitoba of the American Hockey League on Monday.

The forward has 10 goals and 26 points in 28 games with Manitoba this season. He returned last week after missing six weeks with a broken orbital bone from taking a teammate's stick to the face in practice. The 20-year-old could make his NHL debut Tuesday night in Dallas, or Wednesday in Phoenix.

Hodgson was the 10th pick in the 2008 NHL draft and was honored as Canadian junior hockey player of the year ahead of John Tavares in 2009 shortly before Tavares was picked first overall by the New York Islanders that summer. But Hodgson missed most of last season with a nagging back injury that slowed him through this preseason and started his professional career in the AHL.
