The Montreal Canadiens have acquired forward Brian Flynn in exchange for a 2016 fifth-round pick from the Buffalo Sabres.

The Sabres signed Flynn as a free agent in 2012 after he completed his college career at Maine.

Flynn's future in Buffalo was uncertain because the team is rebuilding through youth.

It was the second trade of the day for Montreal. The Canadiens gave up a 2015 second-round pick to acquire defenseman Jeff Petry from the Edmonton Oilers.
