Buffalo Sabres Morning News: Surviving The Collapse Edition
We bring news and opinion pieces about the Buffalo Sabres straight to you – even if you don’t want us to!
How are you feeling this morning, Buffalo Sabres fans? Has the Tuesday evening hangover left you yet?
I got a little of my anger out courtesy of this piece I wrote yesterday, so I’m good today! Hopefully, the Sabres either win tonight, or flat-out lose; no more of this “We had a lead late and failed to close them out” nonsense.
My fragile heart just cannot take it.
Before I get to our game day coverage, here are a few Sabres-related news and op-ed pieces for you to enjoy:
1. Robin Lehner Still Under The Weather – Blessing in Disguise? (The Buffalo News)
As of yesterday, the Sabres’ starting netminder was still sick and unable to practice with the team. I know there are a lot of fans out there who would like to see Lehner stay home sick tonight, as well. If Lehner can’t go, Anders Nilsson would get the start, which doesn’t seem to bother coach Dan Bylsma too much:
I thought Andres was real strong. I thought in the first period in particular he had four great saves that kept them off the score sheet … I thought he played a very strong game, a solid game, was good in the net. He’s one guy I’m disappointed for at the end of the game because he had played a good game for us and we should have gotten a win for him.
Should have gotten a win for him . . . tell me about it, coach.
2. Matt Moulson Is Still Sizzling Hot On The Power Play (The Buffalo News)
Along with the play of Nilsson, Moulson was one of the bright spots of Tuesday’s debacle in Philly. Raise your hand if you predicted Moulson would return to form this season – I know a few of you fans felt pretty confident about him.
And give Moulson credit: he is chalking up his success to the guys on the ice:
I don’t think those chances come without the guys that we have on there. We seem to work well as a unit, kind of in sync and supporting each other and creating opportunities. I’ve just been the beneficiary of a couple nice plays.
But as Blysma points out, Moulson is just playing smart hockey right now:
He’s in and around the net, in the middle of the ice, good screen net-front but quick on the puck, quick on the shot. Every one of his goals has been because of him doing that for our power play.
Nilsson and Moulson – who would’ve thunk it?!?
