Published Dec. 19, 2011 12:00 a.m. ET

Bruins forward Milan Lucic will sit out Monday night's game against Montreal because he has been suspended without pay by the NHL.

The league punished Lucic for hitting Flyers forward Zac Rinaldo from behind and into the boards 16:21 into the second period of Boston's game at Philadelphia on Saturday. He received a five-minute major for checking from behind and a game misconduct.

He will forfeit $22,072.07 for the hit. He is eligible to return Friday night against Florida.
