Bruins' Kelly has broken tibia
The Boston Bruins may be without Chris Kelly for the long haul.
The team announced Wednesday that the third-line center will be out indefinitely after breaking his left tibia Monday against the Senators.
Kelly needed to be helped off the ice after a leg-to-leg hit with Ottawa’s Chris Neil. He did not return in Boston’s shootout win and did not dress for the team’s game in Pittsburgh the following night.
Joe Haggerty of CSNNE.com speculates that the injury may keep Kelly out for up to six weeks, which would force him to miss the remainder of the regular season. This is the first serious injury of the 32-year-old’s career.
Kelly has played at least 75 games in each of his seven full NHL seasons, playing the full 82 four times. He has totaled two goals and four assists in 23 games this season.
