Bruins Goalie Jonas Gustavsson describes Winter Classic mask design (VIDEO)
There are just days remaining until the 2016 NHL Winter Classic at Gillette Stadium between the Boston Bruins and Montreal Canadiens, and Bruins goaltender Jonas Gustavsson has his mask ready to go. Although Tuukka Rask will be the likely pick to start in net for the marquee game, Gustavsson will make sure he at least looks good on the bench.
The Swedish netminder recently took Boston Bruins TV behind the scenes to explain the final design for his Winter Classic mask, and he even had the piece of equipment in hand to point out the unique aspects of the design. Check it out:
Gustavsson was with the Detroit Red Wings when they played the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2014 Winter Classic, but he was scratched for the game and Petr Mrazek backed up goaltender Jimmy Howard for the Wings instead.
Rask will take the ice for the first time in a Winter Classic this year. Although Rask was on the roster for the Bruins during their 2010 Winter Classic appearance against the Philadelphia Flyers, the Finnish goalie was still the backup to Tim Thomas at the time and did not play. Rask does have a tiny bit more experience than Gustavsson, however, as he did at least dress for the game.
