Bruins call up David Pastrnak after placing Adam McQuaid on IR
The Boston Bruins announced Thursday that defenseman Adam McQuaid will be placed on injured reserve with an upper-body injury stemming from a hit in Tuesday's game against the Washington Capitals in which Washington's Zach Sill boarded McQuaid. Sill was not called for a penalty on the play despite leaving McQuaid motionless on the ice for a few seconds, but the NHL's Department of Player Safety subsequently suspended Sill for two games for the hit.
With McQuaid out, the Bruins called up forward David Pastrnak, who has been out since Halloween with a broken foot. Pastrnak was sent down to the AHL Providence Bruins Jan. 4 after returning from the World Junior Championship tournament in Finland earlier this week.
Pastrnak posted four points in four games at the tournament off a goal and three assists. The 19-year-old Czech native played in 10 games with the Bruins so far this season and totaled four points (two goals, two assists) in that time. The Providence Bruins have been out of action since Jan. 3, meaning Pastrnak did not play in any games in the AHL during his brief trip there this week.
