Blues open NHL preseason with 2 wins against Blue Jackets
Pheonix Copley and Jordan Binnington combined for 23 saves to help the St. Louis Blues beat the Blue Jackets 5-0 Sunday night in Columbus, Ohio, to complete a sweep of the teams' two split-squad games on the opening day of the NHL preseason.
Binnington made 12 saves in his 31 minutes, 19 seconds, and Copley stopped the 11 shots he faced in 28:41.
T.J. Galiardi, Ty Rattie, Kyle Brodziak, Eric Nostrum and Jordan Kyrou scored for St. Louis.
Galiardia and Rattie scored 7:17 apart in the first period, and Brodziak made it 3-0 with 4:07 left in the second. Nystrom added to the lead near midway through the third, and Kyrod capped the scoring in the final minute.
Blue Jackets goaltender Anton Forsberg allowed three goals on 28 shots, and Lucas Peressini stopped five of the seven shots he faced.
Earlier, Kevin Shattenkirk had two goals and an assist, Kenny Agostino also scored twice, and Robby Fabbri had a goal and two assists to help the Blues win 7-3 in St. Louis.
Samuel Blais had a goal and three assists, and Paul Statsny also scored for the Blues. Jake Allen made 13 saves on 16 shots in the first two periods before being replaced by Carter Hutton.
Tied 2-2 entering the third, St. Louis scored three times in the first 9:51 to put the game out of reach.
Scott Hartnell scored two goals and added an assist for the Blue Jackets.
