St. Louis defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk left the Blues' game against the Capitals on Sunday because of a lower-body injury.

Shattenkirk collided with Washington's Alexander Ovechkin in the first period Sunday and went to the locker room.

The team announced between periods that Shattenkirk wouldn't return. After the game, Blues coach Ken Hitchcock said Shattenkirk will be evaluated Monday.
