Blues' Janssen suspended five games

Published Feb. 25, 2010 12:00 a.m. ET

St. Louis Blues forward Cam Janssen has been suspended five games without pay for a hit to the head on Washington's Matt Bradley, the league announced Thursday.

Janssen was assessed a five-minute major after the blind hit on the Capitals forward during the first period of the Blues' 4-3 shootout victory on Feb. 13.

Janssen will forfeit $14,248 per game, and the money will go to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.

Janssen will miss the first five games of a six-game trip beginning March 2 when the league returns from the Olympic break. He will sit out against Phoenix, Dallas, Colorado, the New York Islanders and Columbus before he is eligible to return at Minnesota on March 14.
