Blues have no answer for up-and-down playoff performances

The only thing this Blues- Minnesota Wild playoff series has guaranteed so far is a case of whiplash.

Both teams appear world-class at seizing momentum, and equally poor at keeping it. Lopsided victories have been followed by inexplicable losses: The Blues dropped their home opener in the playoffs 4-2, responded with a 4-1 win in Game 2, followed it with a 3-0 loss in Game 3, then produced a head-turning 6-1 victory in Game 4, only to lose again 4-1 two nights later.

The game plan on how each team beats the other isn't the mystery at this point. We're moving past how, and into why.
