Blackhawks send Jeremy Morin to Blue Jackets for Tim Erixon

The Chicago Blackhawks traded forward Jeremy Morin to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Sunday for defenseman Tim Erixon.

Morin has no points in 15 NHL games this season. The winger was assigned to Rockford of the AHL for a conditioning assignment Tuesday because he wasn't playing at all with the loaded Blackhawks.

"It's a good chance for Mo to play and for Timmy to join our organization," Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said before Sunday night's game against Calgary.

The 23-year-old Erixon is "looking to get established in that continued rotation and show he can play at our level," Quenneville continued. "We'll get to find out a little bit more about him tonight in joining our team, and complement our team game as well."

Morin, 23, has eight goals and eight assists in 54 career regular-season games, all with Chicago. He also played in two postseason games in May.

The Blue Jackets' next game is Tuesday night in Detroit.

Erixon had one goal and five assists in 19 games with Columbus this season. He scored his first NHL goal on Oct. 26 at Los Angeles.

"It's exciting for me," Erixon said. "It's a classy team and they've got a great history."

The Blackhawks lost rookie defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk to a broken left kneecap last month. They also reassigned defenseman Klas Dahlbeck to Rockford on Sunday.
