Avs' Barrie among 24 NHL players filing for arbitration
NEW YORK (AP) Colorado defenseman Tyson Barrie and New York Rangers forward Chris Kreider are among 24 NHL players who have filed for salary arbitration.
New Jersey forward Kyle Palmieri, Ottawa forward Mike Hoffman and Detroit goalie Petr Mrazek also filed at the deadline Tuesday.
The players' teams must decide Wednesday whether to go to arbitration. The hearings will be held from July 20 to Aug. 4 in Toronto.
Barrie has scored 102 points over the past two seasons with the Avalanche, becoming one of the league's top young offensive defensemen. Colorado's inability to reach a long-term deal has prompted trade speculation around Barrie, who made $3.2 million last year.
Kreider had his second straight 21-goal season for the Rangers, while Hoffman led the Senators with 29 goals last season.
Other arbitration filers are hoping to benefit from arbitration after setbacks. Mrazek was Detroit's top goalie for much of the year before a late-season fade, while St. Louis forward Jaden Schwartz missed most of his 22-point season with a serious ankle injury.
Palmieri will be expecting a hefty raise after leading the Devils in scoring last season with 30 goals and 27 assists in his first year with New Jersey.
Philadelphia's Brayden Schenn filed after setting career highs with 26 goals and 33 assists. Washington forward Marcus Johansson also filed for the second straight summer.
