DENVER (AP) The Colorado Avalanche will use San Antonio as their top minor league team beginning next season.

General manager Joe Sakic announced Friday that Colorado's American Hockey League affiliate will switch from the Lake Erie Monsters in Cleveland to the San Antonio Rampage. The Monsters have been Colorado's AHL partner since 2007-08.

The agreement is for the next five seasons, the team said.

San Antonio is owned and operated by Spurs Sports & Entertainment, which also runs the San Antonio Spurs of the NBA. The Rampage wrapped up the AHL's West Division this season and is in the Calder Cup playoffs.

Sakic said San Antonio has a ''great reputation'' and the Avs are looking forward to ''our prospects developing in such an environment.''
