A person with direct knowledge of the details tells The Associated Press that the Arizona Coyotes have acquired winger Sergei Plotnikov from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for prospect Matthias Plachta and a conditional seventh-round pick in 2017.

The person spoke Monday on condition of anonymity because the teams hadn't announced the deals, which came hours before the NHL trade deadline.

Signed out of the KHL last offseason, the 25-year-old Plotnikov has just two assists in 32 games. He is set to be a restricted free agent this summer.

There has been a flurry of trades over the past week, with Chicago, Washington and the New York Rangers among those staying busy.
