Plus a schedule to watch all of the Capitals play

The grand experiment gets started in two weeks, and plenty of Capitals will be a part of it. The World Cup of Hockey is the first NHL sanctioned international tournament since the 2004 iteration. It’s not quite olympic in scale, and the teams will play at the Rogers Centre on an NHL size rink, but it should be two weeks of great hockey.

From September 17 through October 1, eight teams (representing the USA, Canada, Russia, Sweden, Finland, Europe, the Czech Republic, Europe, and North America) will compete in Toronto for the first world cup. (Team North America is a 23-and-under all-star team, while Team Europe is made up of players from across the continent without a country’s team to play on.)
