CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (AP) A financial adviser and a racecar driver have been convicted in New York of cheating National Hockey League players and other victims out of millions of dollars.

The Daily News reports (http://nydn.us/1HRLLpK ) that adviser Phil Kenner and former racecar driver Tommy Constantine were convicted Thursday on Long Island of wire fraud, conspiracy and money laundering.

Prosecutors told the jurors in federal court in Central Islip that the con men persuaded their victims to invest in a phony Hawaiian real estate venture and other scams, then pocketed the money.

Former NHL players Bryan Berard, Joe Juneau and Michael Peca were among the victims. Several retired police officers also were victimized.
