Thinking about drafting Tyrod Taylor in your fantasy draft this year? Here’s what you need to know.

Michael Beller, who is a fantasy analyst for Sports Illustrated, recommends you take Tyrod Taylor in the below video and so do we. As Beller points out, he is going in the 10th round in many leagues and he has the potential to finish in the top five or ten of all quarterback when you factor in the additional points he will rack up with his legs.

Tyrod Taylor came to the Bills last season in a three-way competition for starting quarterback. He did not win the job until the end of August and so he had less reps with his receivers and needed more time to build up chemistry. He found that chemistry over the year, especially with Sammy Watkins.

This year Taylor came into camp the incumbent starter and already had the respect of all of his teammates. He has shown an improved command of the huddle and the players genuinely look to him as a leader. He has even shown improvement in the preseason on throws over the middle which he struggled with at times last year.

Taylor is definitely going to have a better year this year than last year as long as he can remain upright. That is the biggest danger with drafting Tyrod because he is a mobile quarterback who takes extra hits and is just 215 pounds.

Last season he threw for 3,035 yards with 242 completions, 20 touchdowns, and just six interceptions. Additionally, he rushed for 568 yards with four rushing touchdowns. This was good enough to make him the 16th most productive quarterback based on Yahoo’s scoring system despite playing in only 14 games.

This year we project him to improve upon those numbers and put up 3,900 yards in the air with 30 touchdowns and12 interceptions. With his legs, we expect him to pick up around 600 yards and score four touchdowns.

If he is able to put up the numbers we project him to, which should be attainable, he would have scored the third most points for a quarterback in fantasy football last season based on Yahoo’s standard scoring.

Taking a flyer on Tyrod Taylor around the tenth round and benefitting from both his rushing and passing stats is a sound strategy for a quarterback in fantasy football. Just make sure to pick up another quarterback since Tyrod poses an injury risk by exposing himself to hits when he runs. Tyrod Taylor is a high risk, high reward pick but we think it’s worth it, especially in the tenth round or later.
