Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

The New York Giants haven’t had much success against the Cowboys in recent years since their Super Bowl season. The Giants last year split with the Cowboys but the opening night loss was one of the more painful losses of the year. The opening night loss set the tone for the season. The Giants season would be similar to that game. The Giants would blow game after game. The season was a season of missed opportunities.

This year the Giants have a very different look. The constants Eli Manning, Odell Beckham Jr. and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie remain the same. The Giants have plenty of other veterans returning but they have a lot of new faves. That starts at head coach. Offensive Coordinator Ben McAdoo is now the head coach as he replaces Tom Coughlin. The Giants made some key draft picks and expect Eli Apple, Sterling Shepard and maybe even Paul Perkins to have an impact this season. They also signed some big defenders in Janoris Jenkins, Olivier Vernon and “Snacks” Harrison. Victor Cruz is also finally back from injury.

2015 Giants

Last year, the Giants left a sour taste in their and the fans mouth after the opening night loss. This year they can’t afford to let that happen. The Giants need to set the tone for the division. They need to rattle the Cowboys who are led by rookie quarterback Dakota Prescott after the Tony Romo injury. The Giants need to show that they are back and that the new defense was well worth the money.

The Giants know how big a game this is. This can be their year they can get back to the playoffs. All the other teams in the division have clear flaws. The Giants have to end the playoff drought. A win in Dallas could be huge for the Giants going forward. Sunday will be a special day around the NFL especially since it is the 15th anniversary of the September 11th terror attacks in New York City. Former President George W Bush will be on hand with some first responders from the NYPD to flip the coin. The Giants will have extra motivation to win the game on a big day in America and especially New York City. A big win can set the tone for a big season in New York.
